Halloween Treat Ideas “Edible Mummies”
If you are having a “Mummy” themed Halloween party then this is the perfect Halloween treat. These fun Halloween treats are easy, quick and yummy! This is also a fun treat to have as an after school snack for your kids. Your kids will think you are the best mom, grandma, dad, aunt, or uncle ever! The mummy’s are made by covering Twinkies with a fudge frosting. Air heads are cut into strips and then placed on top of the Twinkie bodies for the mummy wrapping. We used green candy melts for the faces and candy eyeballs. You can purchase the candy eyeballs in the cake decorating department of a craft store.
What you will need:
- Twinkies
- Fudge Frosting (recipe below)
- Lime green candy melt (you can purchase it at Walmart)
- Candy eyes (also purchased at Walmart in the cake decorating aisle)
- Two white air heads for each mummy, cut each Air Head into three long strips for a total of six strips per mummy
- Decorative spiders (candy or plastic, I used plastic)
Putting the Mummy’s together:
- Fudge Frosting:
- Sugar 1 cup
- Light corn syrup 2 tbsp.
- Milk 1/2 cup
- Cocoa 4 tbsp.
- Vanilla 1 tsp.
- Dash of salt
- Butter 4 tbsp.
- Powdered sugar 1 – 1 1/2 cups
Mix sugar and cocoa in saucepan. Stir in butter, milk, corn syrup and salt, heat to boiling, stirring frequently. Boil vigorously for 1 minute. Cool. Next beat in powdered sugar and vanilla. The frosting should be slightly runny.
Place a cookie rack on top of a piece of wax paper. Place twinkies on top of the cookie rack. Drizzle the frosting over the twinkies.
While the frosting is still wet, place a green candy melt on top for the mummy’s head. Next attach the eyes on top of the face with a little frosting. Wrap the Air Heads around the top and sides of the twinkie mummy body. Slightly trim the ends of the Air Head Strips to fit. Otherwise they will be too long. You can place spiders on top of the bodies and enjoy!
